Three Palm Beach Swallow-tailed Kites to join the aerial research team!

We are happy to report that we have deployed three GSM/GPS trackers (funded by the Palm Beach Zoo and its long-time sponsor Florida Power and Light) on adult Swallow-tailed Kites in Palm Beach County, Florida. We are grateful to our collaborators at the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society and Palm Beach County’s Environmental Resources Management (ERM) to facilitate this research on Swallow-tailed Kites.

Our new birds are named after locations and landmarks near the location where they were tagged: Luckey Buck, Martin, and Jupiter. We are excited to see what these striking birds can teach us about land-use, nest-success and productivity, roost sites, migration, winter activity ranges and more.

All banding and tagging is done under current federal, state, and local banding permits.
